When should you refinish your hardwood flooring? This is a question many people just don’t know. If you clean and maintain your floor like you are supposed to, your floors will obviously last longer and look nicer. But it’s not retaining that glow it had back when it was originally installed then it is time for Flooring United’s refinishing service. Flooring United’s hardwood refinishing service will buff out all the dings and scratches that have been caused over the years. It will also take care of any stains or warping that may have occurred too.

Some types of solid hardwood flooring can be refinished up to 10 times over the course of its existence. This extends the life of the floor and saves you money in the long run. Engineered hardwood can also be refinished, but not nearly as many times as solid hardwood flooring.

How often a floor can be refinished? How many times can my floor be refinished? It all depends on how much foot traffic your floor sees. Flooring United’s flooring specialists will be able to let you know which type of hardwood flooring you have in your home and which process is the best fit for you and your hardwood floor.

A lot of people like to take on these DIY (do it yourself) projects, so the question is - can I refinish my own hardwood floors? Of course you can always tackle one of these jobs yourself, but we don’t recommend it. All the furniture needs to be removed from your room of choice, which can be a lot of work. Then the floor needs to be swept and given a nice dry mop to clean up any dust. Then the entire process from start to finish can take a couple of days to complete - depending on the size or number of rooms you want to refinish.

Next, the entire floor surface needs to be sanded. Sanding the floor will remove stains, scratches and old finishing coats, as well as level the surface. This will make the rest of the process a smooth one. Flooring United’s flooring professionals will then vacuum up the dust so it doesn’t spread to the rest of your house. Then we will make sure all nails are hammered down and give the floor a mopping to make sure its clean. After that the stain of your choice is applied to the wood. Multiple coats may have to be applied, so this process could take a few days depending on the number of coats and size of the room.

The final step is putting on the new finish coat. Like the staining stage, we may have to apply multiple coats and wait a sufficient amount of time between coats. We will advise you when it is safe to put the furniture back on the floor so the new finish isn’t damaged. That would be the worst possible thing - put the furniture back prematurely and ruining the refinished floor.

Refinishing your hardwood floors can add beauty and value back into your home. Plus it’s cheaper than replacing the entire hardwood floor.
